Purpose

The IWF vision is to build a thriving community of independent wikis by providing the access, support, resources, and the expertise needed to maintain high-quality, self-sufficient, and independent wiki communities. We believe an expansive, diverse network of independent groups will empower each other’s communities to share knowledge and information freely. We believe that providing access to centralized, comprehensive libraries of supporting resources is essential to realizing our vision. Therefore, the IWF strives to be a vibrant hub for collaboration, innovation, and learning; that is supported by a united and resilient alliance of wikis. We are confident this creates a more open, transparent, and accessible world of knowledge free of corporate control.

The IWF’s role in this vision is:

  • Connecting independent wikis to create stronger affiliations in a supportive peer-network environment.
  • Championing issues that impact independent wikis and strongly advocating for their interests by standing against hindering regulations and unethical corporate interference.
  • Providing opportunities in the form of providing emergency funding, profit sharing storefront, premium wiki hosting of org member’s sister projects or paying verified community members.
  • Strongly supporting wiki communities seeking to gain “independence” by developing a comprehensive knowledge base of resources.
  • Cultivating an alignment of independent wikis under a unified banner to protect the collective’s interests, encourage positive collaboration, and exchange technical knowledge.
  • Assist in the navigation of IT Infrastructure cost breakdown and funding types to ensure our members have access to adequate resources to improve their wiki at minimum cost.
  • Technical Support by volunteer sys admins.
  • Org developed maintenance scripts, extensions, and skins.
  • Tech Library wiki containing scripts/gadgets, updating manuals, documented wiki break fix resolutions, strategy & knowledge sharing.
